Marketing Assistance For Shetland Businesses

The help you can seek

There are three main ways in which you can get help with marketing. Shetland Islands Council operates a Marketing Development Programme and also offers free advice. Free advice and assistance is also available from HIE through its Shetland office. You can also pay a firm of marketing consultants for whatever marketing services you need.

Some discretionary assistance may also be available for projects that fall outside the Council’s Marketing Development Programme. Maybe you are planning some project that will assist in developing a better or stronger reputation for Shetland. It might be an event that builds on things that are unique about Shetland, that is relevant to our target market and will gain favourable media coverage outside the islands. In such cases, the project may not need to be a commercial one and we’d be interested in talking to you about how we might help. Projects which are close to the boundaries of the Programme go through a screening process, which may mean that the decision takes a little longer.

Unfortunately, because of state aids restrictions, the Marketing Development Programme can’t assist with projects related to seafood.

In general, the Programme is most flexible where a new business is involved.
