What's In It For Me?
You're proud of Shetland. Of being from here, of living here.
What you make, what you do, reflects the unique qualities of these islands, of this community.
We're proud of you. You are the Shetland Brand. And the Shetland Brand can work for you.
The Pride of Place project was developed to unite passionate people who want to spread the word about the excellence of Shetland to live and work in, and to visit. By embodying those qualities, you're an ambassador, helping to promote Shetland and its reputation far and wide.
But there's a great deal in it for you, too. Promote Shetland exists to promote… you.
We have created a new ‘Proudly Supporting’ concept. It means that through your association with Shetland, you can benefit from our marketing efforts.
And we can offer you direct, practical help: Access to marketing materials and support; training; opportunities to link with other brand supporters; the ability to reach new markets; motivating staff through workshops and materials; being part of a successful movement to uphold and improve Shetland's reputation.
This isn't theory. Case studies show that we can help you perform better. That by supporting the brand and working with Promote Shetland, you, your company or organisation can benefit enormously.
"Working with Promote Shetland has been extremely valuable and enjoyable. The Promote Shetland Team are extremely passionate about Shetland and what our islands have to offer. We have been approached by Promote Shetland with initiatives and have likewise approached them. To be met with their warm support and enthusiasm is tremendously positive and I would encourage anyone needing to Promote a Shetland product to contact them." Stella Winks, Sales & Logistics at Shetland Products Ltd
"If it wasn't for the help, advice & professional support of the Promote Shetland staff, our voluntary organisation would never have managed to produce the new angling brochure which has been well reviewed by the national angling press. It is also selling well on our web site and also through local tourism outlets. SAA are confident that this brochure will raise the profile of angling in Shetland and attract many new visitors to Shetland." Alec Miller, secretary of Shetland Anglers Association
Working with Promote Shetland on Shetland Wool Week 2011 was brilliant. Misa and Deborah helped us to form a committee that represented crafts, agriculture, heritage, contemporary design and education. The result was a well rounded line up of events, and PS later helped us produce a beautiful programme to promote these events. In the end, Shetland Wool Week brought together over 20 craftspeople, designers, companies, and organisations and attracted hundreds of people – both local and international - to take part...Overall, working with the team at Promote Shetland gave us confidence, experience and helped us make valuable new contacts and build relationships." Sarah Laurenson, Marketing manager at Jamieson & Smith (Shetland Woolbrokers) Ltd
“We worked closely with Promote Shetland during the initial design, and at the launch of our successful Craft Trail. The trail has provided extra selling opportunities for our members, and provided an additional attraction to visitors. We are happy to display the Promote Shetland logo on all our Craft Trail literature." Ian Gidney, Chairman of Shetland Arts & Crafts Association
By upholding the values of the brand and delivering what it promises, Shetland can compete more effectively in global markets as a place to buy from, invest in, visit and live. You can do more and better business.
We think the Shetland brand stands for verve, quality, spirit, strength, honesty and integrity. A clean environment. A proud, welcoming and vibrant community. We work to make sure Shetland is seen that way, sometimes by altering perceptions and changing behaviour, but also by keeping promises, being honest, straightforward and accurate. The messages we send are coherent, consistent and targeted.
It's good for Shetland. And it can be good for you.
Promote Shetland delivers several publicity campaigns a year, including regular adverts to raise awareness of the isles. We know that the local community and its industries benefit from our marketing efforts. However, we are always keen to work on specific projects, bringing you additional opportunities and openings.
If you have a marketing opportunity in mind please do not hesitate to get in touch. We can offer advice and additional support. We have worked with several organisations already, and the comments below indicate how we can help.
What can I do?
- Embody the brand values. Proudly supporting Shetland means Shetland is on your side.
- Tell us what you're doing. And Promote Shetland will provide you with the tools to do it better.
- Show you’re a ‘Proud Supporter ‘by displaying the logo on your car, window, business cards, packaging… the possibilities are endless.
- Be an ambassador for Shetland. Tell people how great it is here. If you’re going away for work, school, or sport we can supply promotional material for you to take with you.
- If you’ve got ideas or want help with anything, there are contacts for each sector or give us a call to talk things through – maybe you have an idea for a new business, group, event or suggestions on how to promote Shetland better. We’d love to hear from you.
